Martha + Rylan in Love Forever
If you grew up obsessed with Eloise and New York Minute as much as I did, or have always dreamed of doing your wedding day your way, you’ll understand why Martha + Rylan’s NYC elopement felt so joyful and nostalgic.
I started Martha + Rylan’s wedding morning in The Flower District, so I could surprise Martha with a bouquet for her wedding day. I spent a hurried 30 minutes picking out white flowers in unique shapes a textures, creating a bouquet of chamomile, anemone, babies breath and garden roses, which I tied together on a bench in Central Park, besides a sweet old man named Isaac, who told me about his + his wife’s love story which had spanned 40 years and two continents. My heart was already such mush so early in the morning, and I made sure to make a small bouquet for Isaac to share with his wife, too.
Just shy of noon, I met up with Martha + Rylan in the lobby of the Plaza Hotel, where they were staying. A dream of Martha’s, having grown up watching Eloise. After checking in, Martha went straight to the bathroom to gussy up, and we pinned leftover flowers from the bouquet in her hair.
After the quickest (+ sweetest!) of first looks, we hurried down the hall and elevator to hail a cab (which is tougher these days than I remember) so we could book it to City Hall for their wedding ceremony.
With the shortest + sweetest wedding ceremony ever, where the officiant clapped on her way out and across the hall to officiate another ceremony after, we hailed a cab uptown to The Met, to sneak around and take some clandestine photographs in front of the Crossing of the Delaware and Canova. After our swift adventure, we ventured out to Central Park for some fresh air, portraits, gatorades, and a ride on the carousel.
With nearly all our steps in for the day, we scurried back to The Plaza to get Martha + Rylan ready for dinner. With a quick outfit (and of course shoe change, because it was time for sneakers!), we made our way to out final destination: dinner at Grand Boucherie, before bidding eachother goodnight, so these two loveheads could catch some rest after a non-stop, action-packed wedding day of go-go-go.
